Ducts are commonly used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning units to ensure proper distribution of clean air, cold air, air flow and heating. However, with recent developments in the HVAC industry, many homeowners have started to opt for ductless air conditioners and ductless heating. Why is this the case? There are many benefits in going for a ductless system.
At BC Express, we are here to guide you through the process of choosing the right heating and cooling system for your home and needs.

Also known as mini-split systems, ductless HVAC systems offer many benefits. Air leakage, visibility and noise can all be reduced by installing this system. You can also save money in the long term, as these are more energy efficient than HVAC systems with ductwork. Air leakage can mean that you are spending more on keeping your house cold or warm. Furthermore, ductless systems can also be more discrete, which allows for a more aesthetic appeal in your home or office. Ducts have air blowing through them when they are on, so they can be quite loud. Furthermore, because the ducts run through various rooms, sounds and smells are more likely to pass from room to room. Ductless HVAC systems are a good solution to address these concerns.
Although Ductless HVAC systems have their obvious benefits, they are not always the best option. It is truly a case by case basis when it comes to ductless systems. However, they do make sense when you want to have more control over the temperature in certain areas of your home. Ductless systems can be controlled room to room, which makes a lot of sense if you have a large home with rooms you don’t always use. Spending money and energy to heat or cool rooms that are not in use is simply nonsensical. Furthermore, if you are expecting to make alterations to your home — for example, by adding new rooms or removing walls — a ductless system can provide more flexibility as you won’t have to re-do the ductwork when the time comes.
There are various kinds of ductless heating and cooling systems out on the market today. Although there are different kinds to chose from generally they consist of two parts: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit that consists of the compressor, condensing coil and the fan. These can be used in a single or multiple zone configurations. The heating mode of a ductless system works similarly in the same way that the cooling mode works as it is done through the same machine and components. Ductless systems can be very quiet, good for small spaces as well as powerful enough for larger spaces.
